Elise Kathryn Goble

Baby Elise Kathryn Goble arrived 3 weeks early on December 8th, 2010! She weighed in at 6lbs 14oz and was 19 inches long. Perfect and beautiful like her sister!
Labour was not quite as long as with Sophia but seemed even more painful and intense. I went into labour on my own this time which I was not expecting. I was induced with Sophia and assumed that would happen again! I actually had to convince myself I was in labour. It was Adam who decided we should go in to the hospital when I started doubling over and crying with contractions....
Just like Sophia, this baby was face up and STUCK. She was stuck for about 11 hours of intense labour and as a result I was stuck at 4 cm dilated. I was admitted to the hospital at 8 pm on December 7th in good labour and did everything I could to flip that baby over (to face down). Finally at 5 am, with oxytocin running, my waters broken and contractions that were sooooooo unbearable I couldn't breath anymore, I got an epidural. It was an amazing epidural unlike the one I had with Sophia (it didn't work AT ALL). I was able to fall asleep for a short amount of time. My nurse that came on shift at 7 am was my angel..... She is a very senior, experienced and gentle nurse who decided she was going to everything to have this baby born. She checked my cervix at 7 am and I as still 4 cm. My doctor was pretty sure I would be a c-section but agreed to give my nurse Rita a couple of hours to do her magic! She made sure my epidural was working REALLY WELL, got me in the weirdest positions with my leg up on a table and put me to sleep. 2 hours later I woke up and needed to just sit up in bed. Adam decided to head to Tim Hortons to get some breakfast just in case we were headed to the OR. He said "Don't have a baby without me!" as he left the room. A few minutes later, alone in the room, I could tell I was about to have a baby. I called for the nurse and told her to just call my doctor. I called Adam and told him to RUN FAST! He had only been gone about 10 minutes. My nurse had me give a 'test push' and immediately said "STOP PUSHING"!!!! My doctor and Adam barely made it in the room and 3 contractions later we had little Elly bean in our arms.
We were totally expecting a BIG baby boy and out popped a teeny little girl! So happy! Because Elise came in to this world so quickly and was 3 weeks early she started to have problems breathing pretty quickly. Because I work there I knew within a few minutes she was struggling. I asked NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) to come and see her. They did everything to try to settle her but she continued to get worse. They ended up admitting her the NICU. She had to be put on CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) for 3 days. A little mask that went over her nose to help with breathing. She had to be tube fed starting at 2 days old, had IV's and ended up under the lights for phototherapy due to jaundice. It was a long 4 1/2 days but made us realize, seeing all of the other sick babies, that she was healthy.
We got to bring her home on the evening of December 12th! Sophia was so thrilled. It was very hard on her to be away from her Mommy and I paid for it for awhile but she has been such a good girl and LOVES her sister!
Elise is 8 weeks old now and doing well. She is now 21 1/4 inches long and 10lbs 4oz! She is much smaller than her sister was but still a short little porkchop!
We love love love her to bits and are starting to settle into some routines! She is a pretty gassy baby so far and does keep me awake at night with grunting and tooting. She also spits up/projectile barfs LOTS. Sophia never did.
She is her own little person and is starting to do big squeals and more smiles for us! Nothing sweeter than baby girlies!
