Month Three With Baby Elly!

Month three was a very exciting month with sooooo many changes!
We started off by a 1 week visit to Nana and Relic's house in Comox. The weather was kind of crappy but we had fun nonetheless!
After returning, Sophia went through some real separation issues and had lots of trouble sleeping. She would panic so much when we left the room that she would throw up. It was so hard to watch and deal with. Eventually she figured out how to climb/fall out of her crib and gave us a HEART attack one night. Other than some bumps and bruises she was fine but that was the end of a crib for our girl. Sophia transitioned in to a big girl bed over just a couple of days. Really no problems at all surprisingly!
The next big change was potty training. We had tried it a couple of months prior with absolutely no success. Then one day Sophia decided she was ready. She has done very well and only has the occasional pee accident. She is wearing big girl panties now only wears a pull up when we go out for long periods or if she hasn't done number 2. We are still working on that one ;)
Month 3 was a big one for Elly. We made lots of discoveries with her! She has a bit of reflux (all the projectile spit ups and poor weight gain) and has a milk protein allergy (all the sudden pain screams and again poor weight gain). Since changing my diet to a complete Cow's milk and soy milk free diet it has done wonders for her. She only has fussy times when she is tired now and is sleeping SOOOOOO well! Usually an 8 hour stretch every night!
If I mess up and have some sort of Cow's milk in my diet, Elly turns right back in to that uncomfortable baby. It has not been easy for me but having a baby that isn't writhing in pain is so much better. She also seems to be gaining better now. She was down to the 10th %ile from the 50th so we will see what next month brings!
These two girls are A LOT of work but it is very rewarding! I love knowing these two are going to grow up to be best friends!

Month 2 with Elly Boo!

Our second month with Elise was a bit less hectic but still busy with adjustment.
Elise continued to grow well and started smiling lots more. She also started 'fussing' lots more and started projectile 'spitting up' after her feeds. Elly was still not sleeping well at night and was up sometimes 4 or 5 times in one night. She was a VERY grunty baby in her sleep which kept me awake lots. We had her to the pediatrician because the 'spitting up' was intensifying and she started to have full out screaming episodes a couple of times a day. This was beyond 'fussing'.
By the end of her second month, we noticed Elise was slowing down with her growth. There was just something not right. She seemed very uncomfortable and irritable. No one could hold her but me. It was the beginning of many visits to her doctor.
Sophia celebrated her SECOND birthday in that second month as well. We had lots of fun with her friends and family. Sophia is such a good little girl. She is VERY active and VERY stubborn. When she has her mind set on something she won't stop until she gets her way. Time outs are in full fledge in this house now. She is also the sweetest little girl and loves to cuddle her Mom and Dad and sister. She is full of hugs and kisses. Every night before bed, Sophia has to kiss EVERYTHING goodnight. Including the dog, a statue, the couch, the phone and occasionally her potty seat! She has us laughing most of the day.
Our two girls are amazing and we love them more than anyone could imagine! All of the 'tough' days are so worth it and we wouldn't trade this parenting thing in for anything.

Elly's first month with us....

Our first month home with Elise was a busy one!!!! We barely had time to get settled in to a routine when the stomach flu struck our house. It hit Sophia right before Christmas and all of her cousins on both sides of the family over the next week or so...... YUCK!!!!
We recovered from that and celebrated a busy Christmas with family. Two days after Christmas, Adam had to leave on business for TWO WEEKS!!!! I wanted to die! Elly was 2 1/2 weeks old when he left. That was the busiest, loneliest, and hardest 2 weeks of my life. Elise was not a great sleeper for the first month or so of her life so I was living off of NO sleep on my own. Elise also ended up with the same stomach flu as the rest of the kids and spent 2 days in and out of the stollery hospital.
Thank goodness for family and friends. I would never have survived without you all!
I have to admit that Elly's first month was a bit of a blur. I wish I could go back and enjoy it a bit more but what is done is done. We survived it, Adam came back home and we moved on to her second month of life with us!
